1. Welcome to our school website http://www.gveducate.org 2. We have a lost property section in the school. This is located under the stairs at the back of the school. 3. The school has a Students Union and a Green Schools Committee 4. The school had a Diversity Group. If you require any information on this you can contact the office. 5. The school has a number of policies eg code of behaviour , homework etc and these are available to see on the school website or in the office. 6. “Our space” This is a listening space for children who have experienced or are experiencing loss. Eleven members of staff have been trained by Barnardos in “separation and loss for children“. Only staff trained facilitate the support service. 7. A parent teacher meeting is held in November for Seniors and February for juniors. 8. In first class your child will receive an eye test . This date is given to us be the health service and they will come in and check each child. 9. In second and fifth class the children will receive a dental check up. Again these dates are issued by the health service 10. When your child reaches 1st class she/he will be taken for swimming lessons for six weeks at some stage during that school year. 11. Throughout the year we also have trainers from Lucan Sarsfield who come in and teach the children GAA, Hurling, again for a period of six to eight weeks. 12. Around March the school holds trials for running. The children selected then go on to represent the school at Santry. 13. When your child reaches 5th and 6th class she/he will be able to go on the annual trip to the Gaeltacht. Over the last two years this trip has been a huge success and we hope it will continue so all pupils will get this chance. 14. At the end of the year children from 1st to 6th class will sit a standardized test in English and Maths. A full explanation of this is on the school website. 15. We hold a Christmas concert each year 16. Every second year the school hold a show. The last one was The Wizard of OZ and this was held in June 09. We therefore hope to stage a show next year. All children will be given a chance to audition for this. 17. We have a coffee morning for parent s on the 1st Wednesday of every month from 8.30am to 9.00am 18. We have a school book club where you can save on a monthly basis for your children’s school books. This takes place at the coffee morning , and is a super way to spread the cost of school books over the year. 19. We have a text a parent service – you will receive a text prior to any major event or early closure so please ensure you have completed a form to be included in this service. If you have not forms are available in the office. 20. We have spare change Friday on the last Friday of every month. Any money collected is accumulated over the months and the students union will be able to decide what this is spent on with some adult assistance of course. 21. We run an optional student insurance scheme that is already up and running. 22. We have an optional school tracksuit that can be purchased around May/June of each year. 23. We have a number of fundraising events each year, which you will be informed about, eg sponsored walk, cake sales etc. 24. We have a school calendar which we sell each year around November. 25. We hold a Christmas Fair/Cake Sale in December 26. We have healthy eating weeks throughout the year where children are encouraged to eat healthily and the parents association arrange platters of fruit and veg for all classes. 27. Festival of Light – Last year was the 1st year for this event. All the educate together schools come together for this one night. Each school will take its turn hosting the event. 28. Our annual food fair is held in May/June. This is were we look for volunteers to cook their traditional food and wear their traditional costumes. This has been a tremendous success over the last few years. 29. The PTA AGM is held every 2 years. 30. Any parent of the school can join the PTA, all you have to do is leave your name and number in the office and one of our members will contact you. 31. The PTA notice board is on the right hand wall as you walk through the first set of doors in the school. 32.
