We did a project on Brazil for the Food Fair

On Friday 12th of June we went into O'Connell Street and protested against child labour. We visited Irish Aid and put on our play about child labour for them and members of the media. We were on the RTE news and our picture was in the irish Independent on Saturday 13th.

We made kites from newspaper. We will use these to protest against Child Labour in town.

Our school tour this year was to Croke Park. We had a fantastic day learning all about GAA history and we got a tour of the grounds. Our guide Simon was very informative and very funny. Below is Simon telling us all about the pitch. Do you know the greenkeepers walk 5 miles each time they cut the grass?

Just waiting on the match to start!!!

We watched a video about the history of Croke Park.

In the locker room with all the counties jerseys.

He shoots, he scores.......We got to practice our kicking.

A hurling star in the making!!

Both 4th classes went to Portlaoise to put on plays about Fair Trade. We spent 8 weeks practicing with Larry, Stephen and Lisa. it was a great day out and we learnt loads.

Julie's class sang a song written by Petra, Noela and Lousie. Ciaron came with us and played guitar.

Orla's class clap out a message about Fair Trade.

Below is the Big Bean Boss from Orla's play. He doesn't look that mean to me!!

We cheered each other on in between performances.

The boys love to pose for the camera!

Relaxing after the play.

Who's king of the castle?

I'm sure we can fit one more on!

Friday 1st May was International Workers Day. Joe and Ciaron came into our class to teach us a song which we preformed at assembly. Liz taught us all about workers rights and their fight for an eight hour day.

Ciaron teaches us the melody below.

Joe teaches us the words.

We presented what Liz taught us at assembly.

Below are some of our posters we made.

We made delicious food for Spanish week with Liz. We made pollo con garbonzos con Romanesco. Below you can see we were busy chopping and peeling.

This is how you do the funky chicken!

Those onions are bringing a tear to my eye!

Orla's class say goodbye to Mana, the New Zealand tag rugby coach who taught tag rugby to some of the classes in the school.

For Spanish week, both Julie and Orla's class made mosaics using fabric and fibre based on the work of Gaudi

In History class we carried out an archaeological dig. Unfortunately we did not find any dinosaur bones!

A big massive thank you to all the mums, dads, grannys and grandads (and everyone else!) who helped us bake and cook a fantastic range of food for our Fair Trade sale. It was a huge success and we had sooooooooooo much fun selling our goodies. Thanks for coming and supporting us, we were delighted to see you all. We hope you enjoyed the treats.

We squashed as many in as possible! Doesn't Liz look comfy!!!!!

w

The girls are busy selling.

The boys from both classes put lots of effort into their baking.

We couldn't resist testing our own super cooking. We all agreed we'd make very good cooks!

Apple Tart and marshmallows. Can it get any better??

Liz takes ANOTHER break to pose for photos!

It's Fair Trade Week. We are having a cake/bun/food sale in 4th class to raise money for Larry and Stephen to come into our clasess and help us put on a play about Fair Trade and Child Labour. We are going to Portlaoise to put on the play.

The ticket sellers drum up some business.

People queued up to buy tickets for our raffle.

Larry came to our classes to talk about child labour. Over the next few weeks Larry and Stephen will help us with our creative writing and help us to put on a play.

Stephen shows us the moves!

We played a rhyming words game which included some pretty exhausting tongut twisters.

We were really interested in what Larry had to say.

Larry had lots to talk about.

And we had lots to ask.

Stephen passed on lots of acting tips to us.

We made Chinese dragons to celebrate Chinese New Year. This year is the year of the Ox.

Elaine came into both 4th classes and made Christmas dinner. We had roast chicken, roast potatoes, brussel sprouts and carrots with gravy for dinner and fruit trifle and chocolate Yuletide log for dessert.

Here we are queuing for Christmas Dinner. "Please Orla, can we have some more?"

"Mmmmm, these roast potatoes are yum!"

Clean plates all round

We added the finishing touches to the trifle.

Going for the green school flag, we wanted to make sure nothing was wasted.

Nothing wasted here anyway!
